A driving camp is a form of designated driving school. The difference being at a driving camp you travel to the camp and live at or near the camp for about two weeks. The options vary from being very basic to being like a vacation.
These are an excellent option if you can take the time away from work and family.
📅 These schools are fast in that you will get your license in a couple of weeks. The main reason being it will be your life's focus for two weeks.
💵 These schools have seasonal pricing, expect as little as ¥200,000 to as much ¥400,000 depending on the season and school.
As with a normal designated driving school, you will take your practical test with your driving school instructors, then present a certificate at the driving center which exempts you from the famously strict practical tests at the driving center.
It's fast! You will take a little trip and attend a driving in Japan boot camp. Then come home and take the written test and get your license.
The cost isn't all that different from a normal designated driving school.
If your Japanese is already pretty good, it might be a good way to get some immersion.
These schools will have you attend in-person every single day for classroom and practical instruction. You must be mentally and physically prepared to feel like you are back in high school.
This process has a special starting step: travel to the school. Upon conclusion of your training, there's also the return trip home.
Pass the Aptitude Test
The school will have a simple vision and hearing test.
Obtain the Provisional License
You will have sufficient classroom practice and training then receive this at the school
Practice Driving
All of your practice driving will be done under the supervision of your driving school's instructors
Obtain the Driving License
You will go to the driving center, then take the written test of 100 true-false questions, scoring at least 90%
You will bring a certificate of graduation with you, which exempts you from the practical driving test!
